White Coat Ceremony
Our annual White Coat Ceremony event invites current students, alumni, faculty, staff, family, and friends to celebrate the profession. A keynote speaker who has made significant contributions to the PT community shares their professional and personal journey, inspiring others. New students receive a white coat adorned by their faculty and recite the Health Sciences pledge, signifying the beginning of their journey as a healthcare professional.
Second Year Second Off
Early in the summer, the Program celebrates our second year students with a Second Year Send Off event as they wind down their time on GW campus and transition into full-time clinical education. The Physical Therapy Student Organization (PTSO) plans an amazing event that brings together students, faculty, staff, family, and friends to celebrate and have a little fun out and about in DC.
Friendsgiving and Pie a Professor
In November, the Program comes together to enjoy a little fellowship and food during the hectic end of the fall semester. A little healthy competition ensues with the Annual Baking Competition where students, faculty, and staff submit their tastiest homemade baked goods in a friendly head-to-head challenge judged by selected faculty, students, and staff. Folks contribute to the potluck meal with their family favorites from cultures around the world. The meal is capped off with a PTSO fundraiser, Pie A Professor, where a little donation to the PTSO yields a pie to the face (or multiple pies!) to their favorite professor.
Community Engagement
The Program participates in and plans multiple community engagement events and activities throughout the year, like PT Day of Service, DC Falls Prevention Day, and Community Mobility Day. Additionally, the PTSO Service Chairs engage students by keeping tabs on service events in the DC metro region in addition to students often finding opportunities for service through other channels.
Graduation Awards Reception and Ceremony
Each year, the Program celebrates the amazing work of the graduating DPT class and distinguished academic and clinical faculty at the Graduation Awards Reception and Ceremony. Family, friends, graduates, DPT students, faculty, community partners, and staff congregate to recognize the incredible achievements of the Program and to welcome the new physical therapists to the profession.
